A woman who threw a cigarette end out of the window of her car has been fined after witnesses reported it to the council.

The incident happened along the B4328 near Whitland and the council’s environmental enforcement unit were able to trace the registered keeper of the car, who admitted the offence.

She was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 as a result.

Director of Environment Christina Harrhy said: “I would like to thank the members of the public for providing the information that has helped us to catch this offender.

“Dropping litter is against the law and dropping a cigarette end is no different from throwing away any other sort of litter.

“We are urging people to report offenders so that we can take action. Please give us as much information as possible such as the date and time, the location of the offence and the vehicle registration number.

“We are determined to make Carmarthenshire a cleaner and safer place for both residents and visitors.”
