A multi-agency school transport operation between Neath Port Talbot Council, Police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards agency reveals a high level of compliance for Neath Port Talbot’s Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles.
A total of 53 vehicles undertaking home to school contracts on behalf of Neath Port Talbot Council were inspected and saw operatives from all partner agencies carrying out safety checks on vehicles, drivers and escorts.
24 of the 53 vehicles inspected were licensed by Neath Port Talbot Council and except for some minor breaches of licence conditions all 24 vehicles met the required safety standards.
This operation follows on from a number of recent joint operations between the Council and the Police, which also showed that taxis and private hire operators within Neath Port Talbot were achieving a high level of compliance.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council Cllr Ali Thomas OBE said:
“It’s very encouraging to see that all the vehicles licensed by this authority met the required safety standards”.
“Taxi and Private Hire operators often carry some of our most vulnerable people and it is therefore essential that we continue to work with our partner agencies to ensure that the standards are being maintained”.
