South Wales Police and the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) start the 100 day countdown until the IAWP 2015 training conference in Cardiff this summer.

Cardiff will welcome over 700 female police officers from around the world in August to recognize the huge contribution that women make towards policing.

South Wales Police and the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) start the 100 day countdown until the IAWP 2015 training conference taking place in Cardiff this summer.

The conference- held from the 23-27 August this year is the biggest event in the IAWP’s calendar, and will be a double celebration as the 2015 conference marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Association of Women in Policing and 100 years of British policewomen.

Assistant Chief Constable for South Wales Police Nikki Holland said:

“Cardiff will welcome over 700 female police officers from around the world in August to recognize the huge contribution that women make towards policing.  The conference is a fantastic opportunity to hear from global police leaders; discuss cross-cutting, local and international issues; share best practice and look ahead at ways of improving the service we provide our communities.”

Jane Townsley, President of the International Association of Women Police said:
“I am extremely proud and honoured to reflect on just how far our organisation has come in this, its centenary year.

“So much has changed over the years since the IAWP was established back in 1915, yet unbelievably some women around the world are still being marginalised. This underlines that as we embark on our next 100 years, there is still much to be done.

“This year’s conference will celebrate not only our centenary but that of the pioneering women police across the UK who also celebrate their 100th birthdays during our centenary year. Their achievements and courage are an inspiration to us all.

“As ever, our conference provides a unique opportunity for women in policing from across the globe to come together, to empower us as individuals and also our organisations to make positive changes.
“Our aim is to celebrate not only the centenary of our proud organisation but the achievements of all our members across the globe.”

As a champion of equality and diversity, South Wales Police and the Female Police Association are working to provide a positive working environment for female staff; raising their profile and improving the quality of service to the public of south Wales.

Today, South Wales Police employs 1,371 female staff members and 825 female officers.
