A local campaign is calling for Labour Councillors to pressure their party leaders in the Welsh Government to support the many hundreds of local children living in poverty yet are not entitled to Free School Meals.
One of the campaign supporters, Ms Sara-wyn Davies of Garnant said, “I am just one of many parents who are struggling on a daily basis and feel badly let down by the current Welsh Government’s stance on this issue. Everyday for me is uncertain and trying to make ends meet is so cripplingly difficult but I do the best I can.”
“I recently wrote to all political leaders and my local Councillors to find out where they stood on this. I and many others locally are really disappointed with councillor Kevin Madge as I have not had a response from him. I also wrote to councillor Rob James as he is the Labour Councillors leader in Carmarthenshire and I have not heard from him either.”
“I am glad to see that Plaid Cymru have already been raising this issue and are fighting to help us. I am just so disappointed that councillors Madge and James have not shown the same strength and intent to support us by putting aside their party allegiance to speak out and to do the right thing.”
Ms Davis is urging anyone who feels passionately about supporting the anti-poverty campaign to sign the petition and to write to their local politicians.
