A police misconduct hearing was held on March 1 and 2 to consider breaches of professional standards of behaviour by a former South Wales Police officer.

Police Constable Jonathan Price faced allegations of discreditable conduct.

He resigned prior to the hearing but appeared before a misconduct panel to face allegations of unacceptable behaviour whilst off duty.

The panel, which comprised of a Legally Qualified Chair, a police Superintendent and an independent member, found one allegation proven which amounted to gross misconduct and a further two which amounted to misconduct.

The panel decided that the proven allegations would result in him being dismissed if he had not resigned prior to the hearing.

The panel found that his controlling and abusive behaviour towards his ex-partner was unacceptable and was found to constitute gross misconduct.

A referral will now be made to the College of Policing for the officer to be added to the Barring List, preventing them from returning to the profession.

Superintendent Mark Lenihan of the South Wales Police Professional Standards Department said:

“The former officer’s conduct while off duty fell well short of the standards of professional behaviour expected of police officers and as a result he has lost his career within the police service.

“Tackling domestic violence and abuse is a priority for South Wales Police and we take allegations of this nature against police officers and staff extremely seriously. While the behaviour in this particular case did not meet the threshold for a criminal prosecution, it has resulted in a finding of gross misconduct against the officer concerned.”
