In response to additional funding for schools announced today, Plaid Cymru Shadow Minister for Education, Sian Gwenllian MS said,

“I have long called for additional funding for schools, and so I welcome the announcement made today. In order to ensure our children and young people aren’t disadvantaged by months without face to face learning however, a National Recovery Plan is crucial.

“This has to include substantial investment in the teaching workforce and an increase in one to one and small group teaching, alongside other measures such as a volunteering scheme and hiring artistic practitioners to support pupils’ wellbeing post-covid.

“The spending announced today cannot be a one off;  it has to be a part of long term reinvestment into schools in order to sustain recovery as part of continuous improvement. We cannot leave any children behind.”
