Commenting ahead of the Labour Government’s Debate on its Final Budget 2021-22, the Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, Mark Isherwood MS, said:
“Wales – under Labour administrations – has seen more than two decades of wasted opportunities, and even had the pandemic not happened, our country would have needed a Budget to fix the foundations and build a more secure and prosperous economy for the future. Labour’s Budget has not provided this.
“But even a strong economy would have been hit for six by the pandemic, which has devastated an already weakened Welsh economy. Labour is sitting on the extra £650 million provided by the UK Conservative Government, taking its unallocated budget to an incredible £1.3 billion, when the country is in dire need of this to shore up the economy, and businesses have been crying out for more support from Labour Ministers to save Welsh jobs and support families.
“Welsh Conservatives, however, have a recovery plan for Wales, to deliver vastly improved infrastructure, more jobs, better hospitals and first-class schools – all of which will be crucial in the months and years ahead, not just to see Wales through the COVID-19 pandemic, but also to rebuild the economy and deliver the public services that Wales needs.”
