There is still time for people in Neath Port Talbot to register for a local Foster Walk event.
The Council’s Fostering Team is looking for people to support Foster Walk Neath Port Talbot which will take place on Aberavon Seafront at 11.00am on Saturday 6th June 2015. It is one of six such events across the UK, which have been organised in celebration of the 2015 Foster Care Fortnight campaign.
The event will also raise much needed funds for the Fostering Network, a registered charity that works with fostered children and young people, fostering families and the services that support them.
The walk is open to everyone, whether involved in fostering or not. It is free to register and this can be done online via the Fostering Network UK website. Just visit www.fostering.net/fosterwalk and select Neath Port Talbot as your walk of choice. Walkers are encouraged to raise funds through sponsorship. The target is to recruit 300 walkers with a sponsorship of £50 each. The £15,000 raised would really help to improve the lives and life chances of children in foster care.
Cllr Ali Thomas OBE, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said:
“The Council recognises the importance of Foster Care Fortnight as a way of raising the profile of fostering and we are happy to be supporting the campaign again this year. In addition to raising awareness, the annual campaign can also act a trigger for someone to make an enquiry about fostering.
“Last year our service took part in the successful “Welsh Cakes for Welsh Kids” campaign and we are hoping to help raise even more money for this worthwhile charity at next month’s walk.”
Dr Emily Warren, Director of Fostering Network Wales said:
“Foster Walk Wales is part of a UK-wide network of fundraising events organised in aid of The Fostering Network. All of the monies raised through the event will go directly to supporting The Fostering Network in Wales.”
The Council’s Fostering Team will be at the event on the day and happy to talk to anyone who feels they have the skills and experience to become a foster carer. Alternatively, to learn more about fostering in Neath Port Talbot, visit the Council’s website www.npt.gov.uk/fostering or contact the team via email fostering@npt.gov.uk or telephone 01639 685 866.
