Neath Port Talbot Council is consulting on proposals for the future of CCTV provision in the county borough and there are just two weeks left for residents, businesses and other organisations to give their views.
As part of the Council’s Forward Financial Plan, savings targets of £80,000 have been set against the operation of its CCTV service during each of the next two financial years.
The Council has developed a number of options in an effort to both achieve the savings targets and inform a longer term strategy for the future operation of the CCTV service.
The options include providing a partial service, reducing the number of cameras, withdrawing the service altogether, identifying opportunities for generating income to offset the costs, diversifying into other services, outsourcing and collaborating with other authorities.
Cllr. Ali Thomas OBE, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said:
“Setting the budget for 2015-2016 was the toughest year to date and we know that we will be facing more difficult decisions going forward. Engaging with residents, businesses, partner agencies and community organisations is crucial in helping to shape our final decisions on important matters such as the future of CCTV.
“I hope that people will read the proposals and help us by submitting their views.”
