Responding to an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Loneliness inquiry report which calls for a ‘connected recovery’ from the COVID-19 pandemic, Cllr Ian Hudspeth, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, said:

“Councils provide and support many essential community services, such as parks and libraries, transport, housing, voluntary organisations and social care, as well as locally-led projects which address loneliness and social isolation.

“They have a critical role to play in tackling loneliness as part of our wider recovery from the pandemic. However – as this report makes clear – long-term, sustainable funding for councils is needed so they can tackle this urgent public health issue.”
