SPRING BACK, JUMP FORWARD
RELAXED MORNINGS TO BE A THING OF THE PAST
MILLIONS of Brits have been enjoying a more relaxed start to the day over the past year, with morning routines changing for the better as many have more time at their disposal.
Mornings have always been jam-packed, with the average Brit undertaking 10 tasks before their working day.
So what have we been doing with extra time whilst not having to commute in the mornings? For 2 in 5 it’s been about indulging in more time between the sheets followed by elaborate breakfasts and exercise routines.
But as the nation gears up to the clocks changing and loosing an hour from their morning routines, a new poll by Amazon Alexa reveals what will be first to disappear from our boujee morning routines.
According to the research, there will be a deluge or hungry and confused Brits hitting the roads and railways, with breakfast and the digestion of the morning’s headlines the first to vanish from our relaxed morning routines.
Timesaving hacks will also return as 13% of Brits get back to checking emails on the toilet and 1 in 10 brushing their teeth in the shower.
Even without the clocks going forward, a third of Brits crave a helping hand in the morning to simplify their routine – with dreams of a machine that helps them prepare breakfast. A further 28% most long for their morning tea or coffee to be automatically prepared for them with 23% looking to offload the preparation of packed lunches.
Luckily, there exists a contraption called a Rube Goldberg machine and Amazon Alexa is releasing the blueprint to help us all cut back on unnecessary time spent on tedious morning tasks we dislike and instead focus on the things we enjoy.
The machine – made from household items – navigates four specific moments during a typical morning routine including turning on the bedroom lights, playing the radio, turning on the coffee machine and tuning into a workout on Fire TV. The contraption was made up of 543 parts (including 80 dominoes) of which 327 were moving parts. Alongside the machine working its way through the house, Alexa completes four typical morning tasks – turning on the lights, tuning into the radio, turning on the coffee machine and turning on the TV and opening a fitness app using a Fire TV Cube. The full video can be viewed here.
And for when the Rube Goldberg machine is a little too elaborate, Alexa is on hand to help simplify morning routines and save time, with a simple voice command able to trigger up to 99 actions in a Routine – from turning on your bedroom lights to boiling the kettle.
Dennis Stansbury, Alexa UK & Ireland Country Manager says: “When the clocks go forward, we lose not only a precious hour of sleep, but also time to get ready for the day, The Alexa Morning Routine Machine shows how a complicated set of actions can be simplified with Alexa. We hope it brings some joy, as well as more time, to customers.”
