WALKERS and cyclists in Swansea are being given the chance to have their say on the future provision of cycling and walking routes throughout the city.
Swansea Council is carrying out a 12-week consultation on the existing route map, calling on the public to give their views on their favourite routes and what can be done to improve them.
The public will also be asked for views on the latest audit that has been completed on the routes themselves.
In Wales the Active Travel Act came into force in September 2014 and requires councils to map out, plan and continue to improve active travel networks that are used by pedestrians and cyclists. Swansea has more than 50 km of cycle paths – many of which can be found online and in handy pocket guides produced by the Council.
Cllr Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment & Transportation, said: “There is a vast number of walking and cycling routes in Swansea.
“The recent audit of these routes has given us the opportunity to look at their quality and suitability.
“We now want to hear the views of the public. This consultation will give everyone the chance to have an input into the future improvements and development of cycling and walking in the city.”
The Council has carried out a number of improvements to sections of cycle paths in the city in recent years, including a two-mile section of the national cycle route between the Liberty Stadium and J45 of the M4.
Shared cycle and pedestrian routes have also been introduced near the city centre as part of the Waterfront Connections scheme.
