· 32% cite the reason for this as nervousness around changing government advice and Covid-19 restrictions*
· Travel insurer offers additional Covid-19 cover to give Brits more confidence to book longed-for holiday
New research has revealed that the continuous changes in government advice and Covid-19 restrictions have put some Brits off booking their holidays.
In an ongoing study, Holidaysafe, one of the UK’s leading travel insurance providers, found that 43% of Brits are no longer looking to travel in the near future.
More than a third (32%) of those surveyed said they were simply too nervous to book a holiday due to the continuous and unpredictable changes in government advice around Covid-19.
As a result, Holidaysafe has extended its standard cover and introduced new policy cover to provide additional protection against Covid-19. That way, customers can once again look forward to booking a well-deserved holiday, confident that both their trip, themselves, and their travelling party are protected.
Policyholders are able to cancel their trip if they, or anyone else listed on the policy, falls ill with Covid-19 and is required to isolate before the holiday is due to take place. Additionally, customers who fail their pre-departure test on the return trip will be covered for most isolation costs incurred, for instance, a new return journey and additional accommodation.
Furthermore, policyholders who would contract Covid-19 during their trip will be covered for medical expenses, as well as emergency repatriation costs back to the UK.
Holidaysafe recently launched a policy extension, ‘Zero Excess for Deposit-Only Claims’, which covers cancellation costs for holiday bookings should the policyholder:
• lose their job due to redundancy
• be required to provide urgent support at work as part of the emergency services, medical or nursing profession, army, or government,
• need to cancel their holiday because a travel companion, family member, close colleague, or the person they were due to stay would become seriously ill, injured, or pass away.
No policy excess will apply to customers who have only paid the deposit of their trip and need to cancel. Those who have paid the entire booking in full will also be covered for cancellation but will have to pay the policy excess.
Sarah Page, brand manager at Holidaysafe, said: “The last year has been difficult in many ways, to say the least. So, after discovering that many of our customers are nervous about booking a holiday, we decided to extend our cover and introduce some additional protection.
“Everyone deserves a holiday, especially after the year we’ve had. So we hope that our customers find peace of mind and a little extra reassurance in our travel insurance policies and can once again look forward to booking their summer holidays.”
