Thought for the Week – from the Rev. David Jones
It’s the time of year when the ‘nip’ of winter is in the air and with the falling leaves and shortening days we are reminded that summer is nearly over for another year. Before too long the clocks will be turned back and officially winter will begin.
Â
An autumn sunset I saw from the coastal park as I walked the dogs last week was breathtaking in its beauty. At the same time some joggers were braving the evening cold in their shorts and vests while others were well wrapped up. All this added to the transition that is going on around as the summer gives way to coming of winter.
The uniqueness of the changing seasons declares to us that this world is never on hold. It is in the splendour of such an evening, the vastness of the skies, the falling leaves ,the calm of the sea, people running, walking and playing that God’s creative glory is seen. The question we may then ask is – does God really care for us, so small and seemly insignificant in comparison with the immensity of creation? How important are we to God?
The Bible tells us that God knew us in our mother’s womb and has crowned us, his children with an even greater glory and honour than even the stars in the heavens. We are loved and precious to the God of all creation and give Him the praise for such eternal goodness, mercy and love
