Madame Tussauds London Celebrates the Queen’s Record Breaking Reign With Special New Display and Call for Public to Share Their Memories

Madame Tussauds London is celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s record breaking reign with a special new display this summer. Running from August 1 to September 30, Memories of Her Majesty will feature never before seen archive materials and photography of the many sittings The Queen has given the Madame Tussauds artistic team. Guests will also be able to see some of the beautiful Norman Hartnell and Ian Thomas dresses worn by previous figures of Her Majesty, plus a stunningly accurate recreation of the Coronation Crown – the attraction also wants the public to contribute their own memories.

“We wanted to do something special to mark Her Majesty becoming the longest reigning Monarch in British history and sharing some of Madame Tussauds’ memories of a relationship going back 87 years, seemed the perfect way to do that,” explains Edward Fuller, General Manager at the world famous attraction. Edward continued: “We have such a wealth of materials charting that relationship and the creation of 23 wax figures of Queen Elizabeth from the age of two, right up to her current incarnation. But as well as making those materials public, we want the public to share their own memories. The Queen’s figure has always been one of the most photographed in the entire attraction – these days it’s selfies on mobile phones, but people have always been able to take their own shots. If anybody has a photograph of ANY of the Queen’s figures featured here since 1928 we want to see them. Digital, Box Brownie or Polaroid – any type of image is welcome. We would love to see them, share them on our social media channels and potentially even use them in the display we are creating for the attraction.”

The centre-piece of the new display will be the stunningly life-like wax figure of Her Majesty created for her Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Replicating the official Jubilee portrait photograph released earlier that year, the figure is dressed in a recreation of the white and silver lace dress covered in 53,000 Swarovski elements with blue silk sash adorned with The Queen’s Garter Badge, topped off by a replica of the diamond and pearl George IV State Diadem.

Anyone who has a Madame Tussauds memory of Her Majesty should tweet their photographs to @MadameTussauds . The display opens on August 1 and will run until the end of September.
