A MAN has been fined after he was caught putting up illegal posters in Carmarthen advertising a circus.
Council environmental enforcement officers saw him putting up the posters on and around the roundabout near B&Q.
He was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75.
The council was already investigating after receiving complaints regarding the posters advertising ‘Circus Vegas’ which had been put on road signs, litter bins and bus shelters across the county.
The circus had been in Llanelli last week before moving on to Carmarthen yesterday and today.
As well as issuing the fixed penalty notice, officers have also spoken to the organisers / promoters of ‘Circus Vegas’ to explain that fly-posting is a criminal offence.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “We want to remind people that it is an offence to affix illegal advertisements to any structure on the highway and we will take action against those responsible.
“Not only do these posters make an area look untidy but if they are not removed they start to deteriorate, becoming even more unsightly and causing litter. They also have the potential to distract motorists which could lead to road traffic accidents and it costs a lot of money to remove these posters.”
The council will also be looking to recoup any costs incurred with their removal.
