Can you help find my Father’s Family?
My name is Michael Evans and I’m looking for any of my father’s relatives and would be grateful for any help.
He died in 1969 in Cheshire when I was only 11 so I have very few memories of him and as he was a very private man, this is the only information I have.
His name was Richard Thomas Evans, and he was born in Llanelli in 1915. He went to sea as a young man, served in the merchant navy, and during ww2 he was in the royal navy and was (I think) torpedoed.
He went into the merchant navy first as a stoker and there is a record of a Richard Thomas Evans marrying in Llanelli in 1941, but I have no way of being sure that was my dad, as Richard Thomas Evans is not an unusual name.
I’m not sure about his date of birth I think it was in early September 1915.
We could never work out how my dad from Llanelli, came to meet my mum from Blaenau fastening.
The only common denominator is mum’s first husband who was also a stoker in the navy. Could my father and he have been friends? He fell in love with my mum and she split up with her first husband?
I believe he may have had family in Llanelli when he left. He must have had brothers and sisters, maybe even other children.
If anyone has any information that may be of help to Michael, then please email us at news@llanellitown.com.
