A busy Burry Port Road will be closed for 11 months to enable essential flood relief sewerage works.
Gors Road, Burry Port, from its junction with Elkington Road will be closed for a distance of 430 metres in a north-westerly direction.
The closure, which started on Monday (June 15) is necessary for Morgan Sidall to carry out a flood relief sewerage scheme.
The work which should have started on May 18th was delayed by the contractors to carry out preparation works.
County executive board member for transport services Cllr Hazel Evans said: “This is essential and ongoing work by Welsh Water in the greater Llanelli area as part of the flood sewerage relief scheme.
“As a council we have been careful to recommend an alternative road that does not pass any school and would appeal for residents and motorists to be patient and tolerant while this work is carried out.”
The alternative route for east bound traffic will be via Tirwaun, Bryneithin, Burry Road, Heol Waunwen, Heol Panteg, Furnace Road, Cliff Terrace and Elkington Road. Vice versa for west bound traffic.
