All recommendations of Carmarthenshire’s Constitutional Review Working Group have been passed by the County Council.

A total of 39 proposals were made by the peer review group regarding issues such as organisational culture, leadership and values; council meetings; the executive board; and scrutiny.

Cross party support was given to the report which was presented by members of the CRWG.

The aim of the review was to look at governance and procedural issues, with a commitment to making the council more open and transparent.

Council Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “This is the culmination of a process that began way back last year and I am extremely pleased that all 39 recommendations were passed.

“These are governance issues but they are the building blocks that need to be in place as we move together towards achieving a cultural change that will bring the openness and transparency that I have promised and which we all aspire to.”

Deputy Leader Cllr Pam Palmer said it was a positive step forward for the authority.

“I hope this demonstrates our genuine commitment to an open and accountable council, and I also hope it encourages more members of the public to engage with us,” Cllr Palmer said.

“It was pleasing that the report had cross party support, and that all recommendations were approved, we now need to move forward and implement them.”

Leader of the opposition Cllr Jeff Edmunds added: “This is a major move towards openness and engagement for all, that will need constant appraisal and improving.”
