Hardy fundraisers from the Ospreys rugby region and sponsor, Philtronics Ltd have raised £3,272 for Action for Children’s Bouncing Back mental health programme through the charity’s ’30 Days Your Way’ challenge in April for the 30% of children in poverty in the UK.

The aim of the challenge was to complete 30 miles in April by walking, running or cycling with Philtronics participants racking up 650 miles. Finance Director, Anne Pritchard made it a personal challenge to complete at least 30 miles a week instead and managed 150 miles on her own.

Anne said: ‘It was the perfect way to emerge from the dark months of winter lockdown and get out into our beautiful countryside. I was determined to go big on this as the Bouncing Back programme has been so good for the mental health of the young people that come under the Ospreys umbrella.

‘It’s great to see the Ospreys and Philtronics so passionate about improving mental health. We had some very generous donations for which we’re incredibly grateful. I was just thrilled to be a part of a great fundraising team effort for Action for Children.’

Bouncing Back is an early intervention resilience building programme which provides group discussion, practical tools and coping skills to enable young people to manage their day-to-day emotional wellbeing and reduces the risk of more intense mental issues. At the end of each Bouncing Back programme, each participant receives a Mental Health First Aid Kit, providing them with resources that support them to manage their mood and sustain improvements in their emotional wellbeing.

Nina Rice, Action for Children’s fundraising Regional Manager for Bristol, Bath and South Wales, added: ‘The 30 Days Your Way Challenge took a lot of commitment from all involved, whether it was the activity itself or raising funds. What Ospreys and Philtronics Ltd achieved is very impressive in raising a brilliant £3200 and will make a big difference to the programme that has already had such an impact in the region and beyond. Thank you to all who took part, it’s hugely appreciated.’
