Communities and Tackling Poverty Minister, Lesley Griffiths, has announced funding of £188,136 to transform All Saints Church in Ammanford into a valuable community facility.
The Community Facilities Programme provides capital grant funding of up to £500,000 to help tackle poverty through creating and improving local facilities.
The grant will fund the refurbishment of the church, which is currently only used in the summer months because of the lack of heating and electricity. The building works will repair the heating and electrics, create a multi-purpose room for the use of local community groups, and a kitchen in the vestry.
The move is expected to enable the Church to be used by around 12,000 people every year. It will also be able to host a range of community events, from social activities, to art exhibitions and concerts.
The funding is part of a £940,000 boost for four community projects across Wales announced by the Minister today. Lesley Griffiths said:
“I am pleased to announce over £188,000 for All Saints Church in Ammanford, which will ensure it continues to be a focal point of the community. The repairs and new facilities will enable the Church to remain open all year round and provide a flexible space for the use of local groups.
“The Community Facilities Programme has a big impact on communities across Wales and the day-to-day lives of local people. I have been impressed by the well-developed proposals which have come forward from dedicated and passionate community groups across Wales.”
