SCARLETS NAME TEAM FOR OPENING FRIENDLY AGAINST GLOUCESTER
THE Scarlets have named their squad to face Gloucester away tomorrow (Saturday 14th August) in their first pre-season rugby encounter of the summer.

The friendly which kicks-off at 3pm against Gloucester away at Kingsholm includes a number of the Scarlets talented young prospects for the forthcoming season with starts for Wales U20 star Scott Williams at centre and the exciting 6ââŹÂ 4 and 17st, 18-year-old winger George North ââŹâ both of whom have moved up to first team rugby this summer from the Scarlets Academy.

Johnathan Edwards is handed the captaincy for the game with centre Gareth Maule as vice-captain in a side that mixes plenty of experience, strength with youth and will show the depth of potential developing inside the Scarlets squad ahead of the start of the new season.

With several weeks of focused pre-season training under their belts, overseen by strength and Conditioning Coach Brad Harrington, the Scarlets are eager to get down to their first competitive action of the summer.

And the whole first team squad will travel to support their Scarlets colleagues on the field tomorrow afternoon led by Scarlets Head Coach Nigel Davies.

This the first of three friendlies for the region, and will be followed by two home games including the testimonial game for former Scarlets captain now Skills Coach, Mark Jones on Saturday 21st August as the Scarlets play host to Worcester Warriors ââŹâ kick off 3pm. Ă The Scarlets then welcome Exeter Chiefs to Parc y Scarlets on Friday 27th August kick-off 7pm.ĂÂ

ââŹÂ˘ Scott Williams (centre), 19, from Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire. Ă Details: He has been with the Scarlets Academy since he was 15, studying Sports Science at Coleg Sir Gar, Wales U20 rising star, he has signed a two-year development contract. Williams was recently nominated for Principality Premiership Players of the Year after a strong performance as Llanelli Centre, rising to prominence during the Under 20 Six Nations as one of the outstanding Wales performers. Ă He also scored four league tries for Llanelli and won the man of the match award in his side’s SWALEC Cup final victory. Williams was on the bench for the Scarlets first team last season.ĂÂ

ââŹÂ˘ George North (wing) from Anglesey, aged 18. Welsh speaker George North is a Wales U18 star player at centre, he has signed a two-year development contract and has been playing with Llandovery this season and was nominated by the Scarlets for a scholarship at Llandovery College. Ă Formerly with Llangefni, Pwllheli and Rhyl Juniors, North stands at 6ââŹÂ 4 and 17st Ă and has been a successful try scorer for Wales at U18 as well as formerly with Gogledd Cymru U16 side.
