The first ever ‘Tour de Arberth’ last week was a huge success with over 300 pupils from Narberth CP School taking part, joined by parents and members of Narberth Dynamo club.
The older children cycled around Narberth while younger pupils went on scooters and tricycles around the school car park and playground.
“It was tremendous,” said head teacher Mrs Edna Davies. “The feedback from the children, the parents and the local community was absolutely phenomenal.”
Pupils described the ride as ‘epic’, ‘amazing’ and ‘fantastic’, with comments including ‘I now want to ride to school every day’, ‘it was fun – the excitement filled the whole community’, and ‘I had so much fun going around Narberth’.
There were also many complimentary comments from people in the town including ‘a fantastic exhibition’, ‘felt quite emotional seeing everyone’, and ‘what a sight!’
Narberth CP School said they were very grateful to parents who cycled and helped with marshalling around the town, and to Dyfed Powys Police, Pembrokeshire Bikes, Dynamos Club Narberth, BikeMobility, and Sport Pembrokeshire.
The school is especially grateful to Wyndham Williams of Sport Pembrokeshire and Sion Jenkins, teacher at Narberth CP School, for organising the event.
The aim was to raise awareness of cycling to school, and cycling in general.
