As restaurants and hospitality venues continue to open their doors, and further lockdown restrictions begin to ease for indoor-seating, Magnet wanted to uncover the most luxurious items on menus across the UK for the most important meal of the day: breakfast.
To reveal the most luxurious breakfast menus in the UK, Magnet analysed the restaurants across the nation that have a 4.5-to-5-star rating on Trip Advisor, are considered “fine dining“ on the consumer review site and offer a breakfast menu. The most expensive items were then analysed across several dishes and drinks, such as coffee, cereal, egg-based dishes, and a traditional fry up. Each price was then given a weighted score from 0-100, with 100 being the most expensive, to rank each restaurant.

The Oval Restaurant in Knightsbridge was uncovered to be the restaurant which has the most luxurious breakfast menu on offer across the UK. It has the most expensive juices and smoothies, with each variety costing £15.00, and the second highest priced full English breakfast, costing £34.00. The most expensive egg dish on the menu is a lavish lobster omelette created with organic eggs, Scottish lobster, shallot, sour cream and tarragon, costing £30.00.
The extravagant restaurant, which is situated within The Wellesley Hotel, also offers a Champagne breakfast for £115.00 per person. This set breakfast includes a smoothie, a fruit platter, the luxurious lobster omelette, a bakery selection and toast, as well as tea or coffee with a glass of Champagne.
In second place is The Collins Room, also in Knightsbridge. This elegant hotel restaurant was revealed to have the most expensive pastry, toast or bakery dish; their French brioche toast is served with clotted cream and a homemade berry compote, and costs £16.00. Mayfair’s Amaranto Restaurant at The Four Seasons comes in third, sharing the highest price on the list for a full English breakfast with The Promenade; both charge £38.00 for one of the nation’s favourite breakfast dishes.
The Promenade, which sits within The Dorchester, is also home to the most expensive fruit platter in the research – a seasonal fresh fruit dish for £23.00. However, this healthy platter and the traditional English breakfast are not the most expensive items on this menu; the lavish hotel restaurant also offers a sirloin breakfast steak which is served with a hash brown and two free-range eggs, and costs £42.00. The cheapest item on the menu here is £7.00 for either toast or a bagel.
The Foyer and Reading Room at Claridge’s is home to the most expensive egg dish uncovered within the research. Priced at £74.38, the restaurant offers an extravagant twist to a normal breakfast dish – scrambled eggs ‘en brioche’ served with Oscietta caviar. The second priciest egg dish is served by Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill – eggs Escoffier with poached lobster tail, Oscietta caviar and hollaindaise for a much more reasonable £39.00.
All of the top 20 restaurants with the most sumptuous breakfast menus are in London, with nine being in the area of Mayfair alone. The first restaurant to feature outside of the capital is The Oak Room at the George Hotel in Stamford, Lincolnshire, placing 27th. With slightly more reasonable prices, the most expensive item on this menu is Eggs Royale. The smoked salmon and poached free-range eggs dish costs just £18.45.
The next two restaurants outside of the capital to feature on the list are The Old Bridge in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, reaching 29th, and Restaurant Tristan in Horsham, West Sussex, which takes the 30th position. Not quite as expensive as some of the London restaurants, The Old Bridge offers a full English breakfast for less than half the price of the most expensive option in London, at £13.00. Similarly, the most expensive dish on Restaurant Tristan’s menu is £10, which is the price for several egg-based options such as Eggs Royale, Eggs Benedict, and more.
Beth Boulton, Head of Marketing at Magnet, says “with restrictions easing and more restaurants opening up, so many of us are looking forward to eating some of our favourite foods again, as well as treating ourselves to trying new dishes. Whilst there are obvious regional differences in prices, with the average cost of a fry up being £13.49 outside of London but £24.28 within the capital, you can still find that little bit of luxury all over the UK. That’s why we wanted to showcase a variety of restaurants from all over the country that can give us that taste of luxury first thing in the morning.
We all know breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day, so we hope our research will help those looking for a little treat to start their day off on the right (and luxurious!) foot.”
