SCBU Glangwili play mat and stickers

Thanks to local couple Bethan and Eurig Roberts, the new Special Care Baby Unit at Glangwili Hospital has a new play mat, and bright and colourful stickers for feeding and oxygen tubes.

Bethan and Eurig raised a fantastic £15,000 for the Neonatal Outreach Team by completing 19 events during 2019 in memory of their daughter Anwen, who lived for four months.

During this time, they were supported by Kelly Brown, Neonatal Outreach Manager, who the couple say was invaluable in helping to ensure that Anwen’s life, although short, was full of beautiful memories and happiness.

Bethan and Eurig have paid for medical tapes to secure feeding and oxygen tubes, made by local company Cheeky Creations, that feature a range of beautiful, child-friendly designs. The starter packs of ‘Cheeky Creations’ tapes will be given to families of babies being discharged with feeding tubes and/or needing oxygen.

The ‘Totter and Tumble’ playmat is a donation to the Neonatal Unit following a successful nomination from the Roberts family to the company as part of the company’s “Play Matters” campaign.

Bethan and Eurig said: “The mats are beautifully designed and are extremely durable. We’re thrilled that ‘Totter and Tumble’ have donated a playmat for the new SCBU at Glangwili, for babies and their families to use and enjoy in the near future.

We are also absolutely delighted that the stickers have been well received by families and babies, hopefully making a very medical part of daily life a little easier to manage for parents.”

Neonatal Outreach Manager Kelly said the unit was extremely grateful for the items donated by Bethan and Eurig.

The Totter and Tumble playmat is a hospitalapproved playmat and will be used in the family room of the new Special Care Baby Unit. The Cheeky creations stickers are a bright and fun way of fixing naso-gastric feeding tubes (NGT) and oxygen tubing. These are made locally by a mum whose baby was discharged from hospital with a NGT.

With this kind donation we are able to give families a supply of these stickers on discharge. Feedback from families have been very positive, they love the colours and designs and feel they are less ‘medical’. They also hold the tubes really well.
