Giant tanks and trucks to feature in Swansea Airshow

TANKS and specialist military support vehicles will be parked up on the promenade during the Wales National Airshow.

Expert British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force equipment will be among the ground-based features when the event arrives in Swansea on Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12.

Swansea Council is behind the fun. Vehicles called the Jackal, the Warrior and the Husky that have been deployed in warzones including Afghanistan are just some of many that will be on display. There’ll also be military-style trucks, an arctic type lorry, an assault course, mammoth display trailers, information stands, and marquees with information on careers in the armed forces. Ace pilots and mechanics will be on hand during some of the event to chat with visitors.

More than 200,000 people are expected to watch the spectacular action unfold in the sky from the promenade over the course of the event weekend.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “The fantastic variety of ground-based features, entertainment and information will combine with the terrific air displays to generate what’s sure to be a weekend to remember.”

“Excitement is now really starting to build as we head towards an event that’s helping further put Swansea on the map as a leading city of events.”

The Red Arrows will perform on both days of the Airshow, thanks to sponsorship and support from Swansea University. Also confirmed for the event are the Royal Jordanian Falcons aerobatic team and a Eurofighter Typhoon, as well as Chinook, RAF Sea King and Royal Navy Wildcat helicopters. Other aircraft taking part include two Spitfires and Lancaster from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
