Weaving the argument for Welsh wool
Coleg Sir Gâr’s Textiles Technology Project is encouraging the use of Welsh wool in the textiles industry.

Welsh wool has been a passion of the project since its launch iPledge_delete_thisn 2010 and the project has since collected public opinion in a feasibility video which was shown at Llandovery Sheep Festival this year. “Wool is an amazing product,” said project director Suzi Park. “It needs to be promoted as much as possible and the Llandovery Sheep Festival, with its droving heritage, is an ideal opportunity to do this.”
The project’s core aim is to support and facilitate the growth of the textiles sector by supporting businesses by encouraging new technologies and expertise in the industry, facilitating the growth of the sector in Wales. Its clients include prop-maker Karl Evans, who was commissioned by Endemol to make puppets for the Big Brother house by helping him explore high end textiles technologies such as laser cutting.
Hannah Wright, project officer said: “It’s a complete waste to be discarding wool as a natural resource so we’re looking for fact and figures to address the needs of farmers and industry demand to try and increase supply of the fibre in every form.”
