End of an era beckons for Port Talbot Police Station

To mark this historic occasion a special event is being held where anyone with memories of the station are invited to come along.

It takes place on Wednesday 8th July from 10am until 3pm at Port Talbot Civic Centre. You may be a retired police officer who once worked at the station or have an interest in local history and have old photographs and memorabilia or you may be a local resident with an interest in policing in the town. The South Wales Police Museum will be attendance with a display of some of the equipment used by officers in days gone by.

Neath Port Talbot Police Chief Inspector Joanna Williams said:

“It is the end of an era with the closure of Port Talbot Police Station but I am delighted that we are maintaining our presence in the town when we move to Sandfields Police Station.

“The event on Wednesday 8th July is something we have organised to mark the occasion. We hope that anyone who has an interest in local policing or history will pop in to meet old friends and colleagues or to share stories and memories.”

Neath Port Talbot Council secured funding from the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places programme to undertake a number of regeneration projects in the town centre, including on the site of the current police station in Station Road.

This means that from 13th July all Port Talbot 24/7 response and neighbourhood policing teams will work from Sandfields Police Station in Dew Road.
