Penlan AFC progress to the next round of the JD Welsh Cup after a 2-1 win at Underhill Park.

It was a glorious sunny day at Underhill and probably more suited to cricket rather than Welsh Cup football action.

Mumbles Rangers started the game well and took an early lead in the game when Rangers Elliot Smith broke through the Penlan defence and slotted the the ball into the visitors net.

The goal sparked Penlan into action and most of their best moments stemmed from their left back Liam Horton who was spreading the ball forward down the Rangers left side breaking the lines of the Rangers defence.

Penlan had their chances to equalise in the first half and rattled the home team’s goal frame a few times.

The visitors were becoming more and more frustrated as the game went on as their shots sailed wide of the mark.

Rangers battled away and held their nerve and took a one goal advantage into half time. The second half started with Rangers trying to get forward more but were rocked back on their heels when Penlan eventually got their equalising goal.

The joy of the visitors at getting themselves back into the game was there for all to see. However before the game restarted Kurtis March of Rangers saw a red card brandished at him for his protests to the referee leaving Rangers down to ten men and an leaving Rangers with uphill task ahead.

The inevitable happened when Penlan got their second goal from close range and probably viewed by the home team as a sloppy goal to concede. This game took a final twist when Penlan AFC left back Liam Horton who had already received a yellow card was shown a red card for foul play by the referee.

The numbers evened up with ten aside gave Rangers a glimmer of hope to get themselves back in the game. Chris Allen tried his best to force an equaliser for Rangers but the Penlan defence stood firm. The referee blew his whistle for full time and it was the visitors who were celebrating their Cup win.
