The House of Lords Common Frameworks Scrutiny Committee will tomorrow question the Rt Hon. Chloe Smith MP, Minister of State for the Constitution and Devolution at the Cabinet Office, who is responsible for overseeing the Common Frameworks programme.

The Committee will be quizzing the Minister on several issues, including progress of the Common Frameworks programme, the ongoing role of the Cabinet Office, and future reviews of the frameworks.

The session will take place virtually on Tuesday 13 July at 2.30pm and can be followed on Parliament TV.

Questions the Committee is likely to ask Ms Smith include:

  • Are you concerned about the continuing variable quality of framework summaries and levels of stakeholder consultation?
  • What progress has been made in agreeing a standard set of text to address cross cutting issues, like the Internal Market Act, with the devolved administrations?
  • What role do you see the Cabinet Office playing in Common Frameworks once all frameworks have been finally approved?
  • What is the update on the work the Cabinet Office is doing in mapping forthcoming EU legislation and its interaction with the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland?
  • Do you still expect for all frameworks to be submitted for parliamentary scrutiny, with enough time for that scrutiny to be completed, before the end of 2021?

The session follows oral evidence taken from Ms Smith previously in February, which is available to watch online.
