Pupils from Fenton CP School quizzed the Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council about various topics on their visit to County Hall last week (Thursday July 2nd).
The junior pupils asked Cllr Wynne Evans ‘’who was the architect of this building?’ ‘do you ever get tired of your job?’ and many more queries in a lively question-and-answer session in the Council Chamber.
The children enjoyed meeting Ian Westley, acting chief executive, and toured various departments with Cllr Evans and Cllr Lyndon Frayling, including planning, marketing and the contact centre
They also had an interesting talk from David Llewellyn, archivist for education and outreach, about the history of Pembrokeshire and the Archives service.
Head teacher Matthew Harries, who accompanied the children with Rev Ian Middlemist, school council parent governor, and senior classroom assistant Nicole Horsley, said it was a positive day.
“It’s very important for the children to see how local government works, and to see how practising at a school council level can translate into great things,” he said.
Half of the children who took part in the visit were from Fenton’s school council, which was the first one in Pembrokeshire to receive the National Participation Award Kitemark – awarded for very effective school councils.
