Responding to the Welsh Government’s announcement of a 3% pay increase for NHS staff, Wales TUC General Secretary Shavanah Taj said:

“After an incredibly traumatic 18 months for many NHS workers who have also led our world-leading vaccination programme, Welsh Government’s 3% pay award announcement falls far short of every pay claim submitted by trade unions on their behalf.

“It simply doesn’t recognise their dedication, commitment and contribution.  We are also baffled and disappointed that a government which has recently won an election with a commitment to social partnership working has decided to follow UK Government’s lead and make this announcement to the media, prior to meaningful dialogue with NHS workers’ trade unions.

“The Minister needs to urgently meet with unions to negotiate a pay offer, instead of trying to impose an inadequate one.”
