Back in work thanks to Communities First

A young Llanelli man has found work again with the support of Communities First.

Aaron Collins of Felinfoel, Llanelli, had a period of unemployment following an injury which caused him to reluctantly leave his previous job and was looking for a confidence boost to get him back on track.

Through group sessions held at his local Job Centre, Aaron was directed to Communities First for support and enrolled on the ‘Fit to Employ’ programme which is open to 16 – 24 year olds in the cluster area who are looking to enter paid employment.

The programme delivers various activities to raise their confidence, improve their skills and general health through a mix of physical activity and learning to increase their employability.

Aaron was part of a group of 10 young people who participated in various employability sessions and group skiing lessons at Pembrey Country Park. He also attended an interview skills workshop delivered at Llanelli Library to help with his confidence and technique for an upcoming job interview.

Following the workshop Aaron confirmed that he had been successful in securing full-time employment at Chillies Diner, a new Mexican restaurant in Llanelli town centre.

Aaron is now working 40 hours per week and is thoroughly enjoying the challenge of working in a new, busy environment.

He said: “The restaurant here has amazing food, all freshly made. A big thank you for the course, the interview skills workshop really helped me get in to work so mission accomplished.  I’ve got a new working life with outstanding pay, thank you Communities First.”

Carmarthenshire County Council executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “It’s great news that Aaron has been able to find work again and that Communities First has been able to help him do that. I wish Aaron all the best for the future.”
