A day nursery set up with the support of a Redundant Rural Building Grant has been officially opened.
Ysgubor Fach was awarded a grant of more than £107,000 covering half the investment in the new nursery.
Eleri – who will manage the nursery – and Dorian Thomas have established the business at Fferm Pontcowin, Bancyfelin, in a converted redundant Grade II listed barn. The facilities at the nursery include two play rooms, a quiet room, office/reception, kitchen, toilets and shower room. On the first floor there is a staff room and storage area.
The business brings a childcare facility to Bancyfelin, which is conveniently situated for parents travelling from west Wales towards Carmarthen and vice versa. The nursery is bilingual with all employees able to communicate with the children in Welsh and English. Demand for places in bilingual nurseries in the Carmarthen and St Clears area is high with several having waiting lists for places.
The Redundant Rural Buildings Grant scheme, which finished at Christmas 2014, was a capital grant available to micro-enterprises to convert redundant buildings for business use within rural Carmarthenshire.
This project received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-13 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
