Carmarthenshire County Council’s scrutiny committee has today considered the next exciting step in transforming the Tyisha area of Llanelli.

Following scrutiny, the early market engagement process will now be considered at the council’s Executive Board at the beginning of September.

The Early Market Engagement process invites interest from potential partners to work with the council in carrying out improvements to the area including building a modern, mixed-use housing development which meets the needs of the community.

The area includes Maes Y Gors, commonly known as ‘the four Ty’s’ which are set to be demolished later this year to make way for the new housing development. This area is of strategic importance as it links Llanelli town centre with the Pentre Awel development.

The plans must include modern, mixed-use housing which meets the needs of the community and the council are now asking potential contractors to share their vision of Tyisha before the official tender process begins.

Not participating in the early market engagement process will not impact any contractor/business applying during the official tender process.

Cllr Linda Evans, chair of the Tyisha steering group and executive board member for housing said: “Residents in Tyisha have told us that they want better housing provision, more job opportunities, a cleaner environment and a safer place to live. We are striving to deliver these goals and the development of housing to replace the four Ty’s is a major step towards transforming Tyisha.

“We are seeking a contractor who shares our ambition to provide the area with mixed-use housing that is modern, comfortable and meets the needs of the community as well as landscaping the area”.

“I encourage any potential partners to view the early market engagement document which outlines our vision welcome fresh and innovative ideas from potential partners to help deliver this exciting project”.

The early market engagement document which sets out what the council requires and the landscape the housing will be set in can be found at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk/Tyisha

This forms part of the council’s ambitious Transforming Tyisha project which looks to regenerate the area through increasing community safety, developing housing and community facilities and improving the environment.
