A Pembrokeshire pupil’s zest for sport has won him a brand new scooter

Finlay Elrick of Tasker Milward School in Haverfordwest was presented with his Mongoose Stunt Scooter last week as a reward for his sporting enthusiasm.

The year 7 student has attended over 100 extra curricula sports clubs during this school year.

He has taken part in a wide range of clubs including cricket, dodgeball, football, golf, basketball and boys hockey and recently represented the school in a badminton match against Sir Thomas Picton.

Finlay was presented with his scooter – donated by Halfords – at a special ceremony at the school last Friday (July 10th).

Runner-up and year 8 student Josie Phillips attended 87 different sessions including girls football and cricket.

She plays for Johnston Girls football team and has represented the school at cricket.

Josie has now been recruited as a Silver Young Sports Ambassador the upcoming academic year.

She was presented with a ‘goody bag’ from Boots.

“This is the third year running that we have offered incentives to pupils,” said Rominy Colville, Active Young People Officer for Sport Pembrokeshire – the County Council’s sports development team.

“With so much concern these days about fitness and obesity we want to encourage as many pupils as possible to get active.

“By rewarding effort we give them that bit extra incentive to keep fit.”

Under the school’s incentive scheme, which is now being taken up by other county schools, pupils earn points each time they attend a lunch time or after-school sports club.

Activities on offer include golf, street dance, volleyball, tennis, hill walking, boccia and cycling.

Students with the most points win prizes at the end of each term with an overall winner at the end of the year.
