- Analysis of Europe’s six most populated countries finds McDonald’s is the unhealthiest restaurant
- McDonald’s Spain has the burger with the highest calorie count across all items analysed with almost half the recommended daily calories for an average human
The UK has Europe’s healthiest fast-food options, according to a new study by online kitchen equipment retailer Maxima Kitchen Equipment.
In the study McDonald’s, KFC and Subway’s menus were compared across the six most populated countries in Europe to discover which offered the most calorific options. The UK emerged as the country with the least calorific options from the chains, ahead of Russia, Germany, France, Spain and Italy
The least unhealthy chain in Europe of the three outlets analysed is Subway. Subway France claims the lowest calorie meal from the meals studied, the Subway Club 6” at 306 calories.
However, KFC Russia breaks up Subway’s winning streak on the bottom part of the list with its Zinger Burger, containing just 363 calories. The same burger in Germany has a far higher calorie count at 517 calories.
McDonald’s tops the list as the unhealthiest of the three chains with a substantially higher calorie count on average than the other two fast food outlets for similar meals. In the list of top ten most calorific meals across Europe, McDonald’s meals make up the majority of the top five spots
McDonald’s Spain has the meal with the highest calorie count compared to the other countries in the study – the Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger. With a whopping 750 calories, the burger accounts for almost half the recommended daily calories for an average human.

Commenting on the study a spokesperson for Maxima Kitchen Equipment said: “With the UK’s upcoming ban on advertising unhealthy foods before 9pm, as announced this May, it comes as no surprise that the country takes calorie control seriously. Like with all good things moderation is key.”
The research was carried out by Maxima Kitchen Equipment, which has more than 40 years of experience in the supply and maintenance of professional kitchen equipment.
