The Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway held a very successful Pacer Gala at its base at Cynheidre on Saturday 28th August featuring for one day only all three Pacer units based at the line. This was the only opportunity to travel behind one of the units before it is converted for a static use at the railway. There was even an impromptu fly past by the Red Arrows! A spokesman for the railway commented ‘this was probably the most successful event we have ever held at the railway with all trains well loaded with happy passengers. All proceeds from the day will be used to further develop the line which is operated entirely by volunteers’

The railway is uniquely home to both types of Pacer train which until recently operated the majority of services for Transport for Wales in the South Wales Valleys. Unit 142 006 is the only survivor of the earlier series of units and was in service on the day, sharing duties with the two newer class 143’s.
A complete Class 47 cab belonging to 47738, which was brought to the railway by Richard Benyon of ‘The Cab Yard’ proved a particular hit with our visitors, particularly the younger ones who enjoyed sitting in the drivers seat and operating the controls. The railway will continue to work in partnership with Richard, which will eventually see the majority of the collection relocated to the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway.
The railway will next be open on Saturday 25th September when brake van rides behind the Sentinel diesel will be on offer.

The railway is a charity run totally by volunteers.
