Cardiff ranked bottom in new study on restaurants hygiene ratings in the UK

How often do we check a restaurants food hygiene rating before ordering?

Despite the pandemic, food hygiene officials have continued to inspect restaurants and businesses around the country.

Ranging from our go-to coffee shops to our favourite takeaways there were numerous one-star hygiene ratings for certain chain restaurants in the UK – but where in the UK has the worst restaurant hygiene ratings overall?

Unfortunately for Cardiff residents, a new study by Essential Living has uncovered that the Welsh capital has the lowest number of 5-star hygiene restaurants in the UK. Under 60% of Cardiff’s restaurants’ achieved 5-star hygiene rating available from the FSA:

Though Cardiff came lowest-rated overall, Birmingham was not far behind. Though they had a higher percentage of 5 star rated restaurants, the city also had the highest % of one-star rated hygiene establishments in the country.

The study also looks at the worst UK chain restaurants for hygiene and worst dishes for food poisoning and the worst UK supermarkets for food poisoning and recalls.
