McCartneys report an entry of 78 TB Restricted Store Cattle at Knighton Market on Tuesday 31st August 2021.
Another excellent Orange Market at Knighton. An entry dominated by dairy bred beef cattle met a firm demand throughout, with cattle travelling from West Wales. The entry also included some excellent quality suckler bred stores. The overall average for all cattle saw store steers average 216.36 pence per kilo and £900.57 per head and store heifers average £222.37 pence per kilo and £914.48 per head.
Suckler bred beef steers averaged £1198.75 per head, with larger cattle very keenly sought after. Top price per head was 256.90 pence per kilo and £1310 per head for three 510 kilo Limousin x steers from C J Davies & Sons. Also to 252.90 pence per kilo for three 435 kilo limousine x steers to £1100 per head, and £1210 per head for a 495 kilo Limousin x steer all from the same home.
Suckler bred beef heifers averaged £1041.07 per head, selling to 263.60 pence per kilo and £1305 per head for three 495 kilo Limousin x heifers from C J Davies & Sons. Also to 252.90 pence per kilo and £1100 per head for two 435 kilo Limousin x heifers, and £1205 per head for two 480 kilo Limousin x heifers again from C J Davies & Sons.
Dairy beef steers averaged £825.64 per head, and sold to 220 pence per kilo and £935 per head for five 425 kilo British Blue x steers from E Evans & Son Ltd. Also to 216.50 pence per kilo and £855 per head for three British Blue x steers from the same home. Hereford x steers sold to 216 pence per kilo and £875 per head for a bunch of five, again from E Evans & Son Ltd.
Dairy beef heifers averaged £730 per head, selling to 218.10 pence per kilo for five British Blue x heifers to £785 per head from E Evans & Son Ltd. 200 pence per kilo and £760 per head for three 380 kilo Hereford x heifers from the same home.
Friesian steers averaged £817.50 per head, selling to 204 pence per kilo and £1020 per head for a 500 kilo steer from DVG, WJ & GL Evans. Also to 200 pence per kilo for a 380 kilo Friesian steer to £769 from the same home.
Today’s sales shows that our TB Restricted store sales (Orange Markets) at Knighton we really do have buyers for all cattle, and it is worth a journey from further afield to be able to sell your cattle.
