Welsh Liberal Democrat MS Jane Dodds has today written to the Welsh Government seeking reassurances about the NHS’ ability to deliver the annual winter flu vaccine.
The letter comes following reports that GP surgeries in England are being forced to cancel appointments after NHS England’s primary provider warned that it could not deliver supplies for up to two weeks due to “unforeseen road freight challenges”.
Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said;
“This is something that patients, doctors, and our NHS can do without. The winter flu vaccine is a key part of keeping people healthy and relieving pressures on our health service during the winter.
“With higher rates of flu expected this winter, the Welsh Government must provide assurances that the 1.5 million people in Wales expected to be vaccinated this winter will be able to receive their vaccine.
“The Welsh Government needs to urgently get to grips with the huge pressures facing our NHS and set out a long-term plan for the recovery of our health and care services.”
