Schoolchildren in Llangadog are appealing to residents to clean up after their dogs.
Posters designed by pupils Layla Sheridan and Iolo Dafydd will be put up in the local community to encourage people to put their dog mess in the bin.
The school is working with the council to encourage dog owners to behave more responsibly and pupils were asked to design posters warning people of the consequences of dog fouling.
Headteacher Aled Rees said: “This is a great way of raising awareness of what can be disturbing and unpleasant anti-social behaviour. I was glad of the opportunity for the pupils to be able to work in collaboration with the county council and we are hopeful of a positive response from local residents.”
Council environmental enforcement officers will be stepping up patrols in the area and anyone caught failing to clean up after their dog can be fined £75.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “It is a shame that a minority of irresponsible dog owners are spoiling it for other people. As well as being very unpleasant if you step in it, the health risks can be extremely serious.
“Hopefully by working with the school to raise awareness in the community we can reduce the problem and clean up the streets.”
