Un Sir Gar, the council’s information and signposting gateway, is hosting a heritage event at its Llanelli base, promoting all that’s positive about the town and the host of volunteer opportunities available.

The event is being held at The Hub, Vaughan Street, on Friday, July 24.

From 10am and 2pm, The Hub will showcase a number of heritage and culture projects that make Llanelli special.

Organisations attending will include, Communities First, Llanelly House, Infinite Arts, Llanelli Photographic Society Carmarthenshire Tourism, The Park Howard Association, and The Railway Goods Sheds Trust – all of whom have a host of volunteer opportunities.

Cllr Meryl Gravell, Executive Board Member for Regeneration, said: “Why not drop in to find out what these organisations do and the exciting things coming to Llanelli, or speak to them about voluntary work?

“It is far too easy sometimes to point out all that’s missing in the town you live in, but at Un Sir Gar we want to celebrate all that’s good within walking distance of Llanelli Town Centre.

“Volunteering with these heritage organisations is not only be rewarding, but a fantastic addition to anyone’s CV, giving people a chance to gain transferable skills that employers are looking for.”

Un Sir Gar The Hub is an information and signposting service, covering the whole of Carmarthenshire, and based at the former Burton’s shop in the middle of Llanelli Town Centre.

Over a thousand people a month pass through its doors, seeking information on employment, education, training and volunteer opportunities.

It plays host to successful Jobfairs and volunteer events, as well as promoting initiatives such as Adult Learner’s Week, Community Education and the National Apprenticeship week.

More recently, some council services have been available there, including a housing surgery where tenants can drop in and speak to their local housing officer.

And it has given a temporary home to the council’s Llanelli Customer Service Centre, whilst essential works are underway at Ty Elwyn.
