Surfers heading to a Swansea beach are being reminded not to give thieves an easy ride this summer.

A campaign has been launched with the support of local school children to help get the message across.

Unfortunately the summer months often see a rise in vehicle crime with opportunist thieves targeting people who have left their vehicle unlocked or hidden on the beach.

The Key Safe scheme is up and running at Caswell where drivers can leave their car keys at the Surfside Café. To re-launch the initiative local PCSO Suzie Broad enlisted the help of children at Oystermouth Primary School to design a poster.

The winning design was by year 5 pupil Samuel Phillips whose poster will now be on display at Caswell Bay car park.

PCSO Broad said: “Unfortunately we still see surfers putting their vehicles at risk by hiding car keys on the beach or under their vehicle.

“By removing the opportunity for thieves then you will drastically reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime.”

Only this week a Ford Fiesta got stolen from the car park after the keys to the vehicle were left on the beach while the owner was surfing.

PCSO Broad added: “The Key Safe scheme is so simple but it will prevent having your visit to the beach ruined by thieves.”
