Today Jane Dodds, MS for Mid and West Wales demanded action from the First Minister on dentistry.
Jane Dodds MS said: “Hywel Dda Community health council undertook some mystery shopping exercises earlier this year and found that some practices had long waiting lists for NHS care – up to 3 years long.
“Out of the 45 practices they spoke to 27 were only accepting new private patients. The lack of access is causing significant anxiety across the Region and just can’t be allowed to continue.”
Demanding action on this issue, Jane Dodds was informed by the Labour Government that just 30,000 people across are able to access a dentist each week, when the number needs to at least double for everyone to get an appointment at least once a year.
Jane Dodds MS added, “The Welsh Government must do better. Yes Covid has caused delays, but with emergency dental treatment.
The First Minister is right that it’s not enough – we need real action so that the residents of Mid and West Wales get the proper dental services we need.”
