Thanks to donations from local communities, Hywel Dda Health Charities has been able to purchase a new bedside monitor for the Special Care Baby Unit at Glangwili Hospital.
Costing more than £14,000, the cerebral function monitor records brain activity continuously and is used to help new-born babies who are unwell.
Karen Jones, Senior Nurse Neonates, said: “The monitor helps to show us if a baby is having abnormal electrical activity such as a seizure.
“It assists with decision-making, to assess whether the baby can remain in Glangwili Hospital or would need to be transferred to a neonatal intensive care unit for more intensive treatment.
“The neonatal team really do appreciate the kind and generous donations which have enabled this monitor to be purchased for the unit.”
Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, Nicola Llewelyn, said: “Donations from our communities are making a huge difference to the lives of patients, service users and staff in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
