Over 300 breath tests were positive throughout Wales during the recent month-long Anti Drink and Drug Drive Summer Campaign.

The campaign, which was led by North Wales Police, also saw officers carrying out over 12,000 breath tests across the country.

During the month long campaign South Wales police officers undertook 2,437 breath tests which was slightly up on last year, of those tests 124 arrests were made for providing a positive sample/ failing to provide or refusing to provide a sample. The overall percentage of persons arrested fell slightly from 6.4% in 2014 to 5.01% this year.

“Although its pleasing to see a slight reduction in the number of positive tests this year, drink/drug driving is one of the main contributory factors in serious and fatal collisions and with our partners we will continue to work together to educate drivers on the dangers of consuming alcohol and/or taking drugs and then driving.

South Wales Police will continue to drive home the message that the only safe option is to drink OR drive not both.”

Anyone with information regarding individuals who are believed to drive over the legal limit can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously and confidentially on 0800 555 111.
