Outside half Steven Shingler will be looking to make a return to action for the start of the Guinness PRO12 season having had a summer of rehabilitation following surgery to a long-standing shoulder injury.

The 24-year-old Hendy product will be chasing down hi 50th regional appearance for the Scarlets when the season rolls back into action in less than six weeks time.

With international outside half Rhys Priestland enjoy pastures new over the border Shingler will be keen to stamp his authority on the 10 jersey and make the shirt his own.

Helping him develop his game further this season is former international outside half Stephen Jones and Shingler says he’s already having an influence on the squad, he said: “It’s hard not to associate him as Steve Jones the legend!

“He’s brilliant; he’s got his ideas of how the game should be played and how he wants it to be played and he’s getting it out of the boys. Training sessions have been very intense and very accurate. He knows what he wants and he’s getting it at the moment.”

Shingler was a young development player when Jones was in his final years as a player with the region and he believes the former international, who made 316 appearances and scored 2850 points for the Scarlets, will be an invaluable influence on the outside halves at the region.

He went on to say: “He obviously gave me a lot of tips and advice. I’m looking forward to working with him more on a one-to-one basis and trying to improve my game.

“He’s obviously a very experienced player, his coaching credentials at the moment are that Wasps were top try scorers in the Premiership! Everything is positive so far.”
