Llanelli’s Hafan Y Morfa sheltered scheme is hosting a free cream tea afternoon on Friday, August 14.

Organised by the local Communities First team, it is being held between 2-4pm and tenants from all other sheltered schemes are invited to attend along with any family and friends.

All refreshments are free and there will also be a chance to dance with other attendees.

Sheltered scheme officer Mica Roberts said: “It’s a chance to get together, meet new friends and catch up with old friends, whilst having tea, cakes and lots of fun.”

The event is just one of a series of activities which are part of a wider project called The Silver Hoodies – a project which aims to break down barriers between younger and older generations and reduce social isolation in older people.

Lynsey Cross from Communities First, said: “The project will see a group of young people from the Bwlch Youth Centre and some of the residents of Hafan y Morfa and Llys y Drindod sheltered schemes work and socialise together. The cream tea is just one activity, and another will be to renovate the gardens of each of the complexes.”

Sheltered housing provides accommodation for older people. Each has a range of options, including ground and first floor flats, with gardens and communal facilities.

Each scheme also benefits from a dedicated housing support officer, connection to a 24-hour support service via Careline and a secure door entry system.

They also have guest flats, laundry facilities, a communal lounge and a HandyVan service.

The rent also includes all heating and water bills.
