A Llanelli man has been ordered to pay more than £600 in fines and court costs for a fly-tipping offence.
Brandon Lee, aged 20, of Brynawelon, pleaded guilty to two offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989 at Carmarthen Magistrates Court.
The court heard that in December last year the council’s environmental enforcement officers visited Furnace Pond after a report of fly-tipping. They found a pile of rubbish had been dumped there including an old sofa, blue and black bags and large pet food bags containing general waste.
They traced it to an address in the Kidwelly area and the householder confirmed she had paid Lee £100 to remove it and believed the waste was going to the tip.
During an interview with the officers Lee admitted to the offence of fly-tipping and was very appologetic.
He was prosecuted for the fly-tipping offence and for not having a valid waste carriers licence.
Lee was fined £150 and ordered to pay £456.99 prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge by magistrates.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Anyone caught fly-tipping will be prosecuted, not only does it spoil our enjoyment of the environment but it can cause serious pollution and harm to human health as well as animals.”
The council is part of Fly-tipping Action Wales and works with partners such as the police to tackle the problem of fly-tipping and catch those responsible.
